SARAH AMMONS

CENTER STREET MURAL (WEST SIDE)

image0 2.jpeg

Sarah Ammons is a visual artist, art educator and student of philosophy. Her paintings are made by observational drawing, linking figure, object and pattern together to express little visual narratives. Each scene asks the viewer to decipher meaning from the relationships between the objects and actions rendered, revealing glimpses into the internal world of the subject in the painting. Her paintings contemplate our relationships to ourselves and our environments, often masking a sense of mania, hysteria or emptiness with a pleasant pastel color palette.

Sarah received a BFA at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, Canada graduating in 2012 with honours. She moved on to study painting and drawing at the San Francisco Art Institute, and received her MFA in 2014.  During her time at SFAI, Sarah received a Murphy and Cadogan Contemporary art award, in San Francisco, as well as the Graduate Fellowship Award from the Headlands Center for the Arts, in Sausalito, CA, following the completion of her program; this involved a year long residency amongst a wide range of contemporary artists working in all genres. Sarah is active in exhibiting her work, has participated in residencies, and has been published in both the United States and Canada. She is currently working out of her studio in Healdsburg, CA.
